6/9/20 Who We Are and What We Stand For

INTEGRITY. EXCELLENCE. INCLUSIVE. COMMUNITY.
Our core values make us who we are, so much so it’s on our walls. THESE VALUES are what we live and breathe. Embedded in our Mission Statement: “We provide the most effective method of fitness…in an environment where everyone is an AllStar.” That was the primary motivation for including the word ‘AllStar’ in our company name since the beginning. Because when we started in 2011 and up until this day and for all the days to come, we believe ALL people, regardless age, fitness level, color, gender, race, sexual orientation, or mental or physical disability deserve to be treated like an ALLSTAR. Each person who comes through our doors is treated with love, respect, and ALOHA. We wholeheartedly believe all who come in to our facility deserve to be provided effective fitness and quality health for themselves in an inclusive community. WE ENCOURAGE. WE HONOR. WE RESPECT ALL PEOPLE. We whole heartedly believed for the past 10 years that CrossFit was congruent with this ideology. Our lives have been impacted so positively by CrossFit in the past, we felt we were stronger together and joined the brand of affiliates that spanned the globe. That is why I will say, I have been utterly shocked by the recent divide in our CrossFit community. For a community that prides itself on coming together, we sure are far from that right now.
On this very day at CrossFit AllStar, we are celebrating our re-opening. This is the time to reflect on what makes us who we are, and hands down i’d say at our core it’s our community. We’ve been pouring 110% of our energy into preparations for this moment today. To those of you who came out to the gym today, it was so GREAT to see you all, it is because of YOU that we are who we are; nothing will change that.
I never thought in my wildest dreams we’d have this great divide in our community of CrossFitters, and at the same time I completely understand how it’s come to this. The professionalism of any company starts at the top, and unfortunately our founder Greg Glassman made some horrific decisions to publicly disrespect not only public health measures due to the pandemic, but also collide that with complete ignorance about the social injustice issues that are paramount to our society as a whole at this point in time. He minimized the loss of George Floyds life, mocked it, and as a result let us know where his values are. And those are HIS values, NOT CrossFit, and certainly NOT what our affiliates stand for.
We will wait and see if the CrossFit brand can find a way to repair and recover, and if not we will find our own.
