NEW CROSSFIT ALLSTAR COVID-19 GYM GUIDELINES:

To the CrossFit AllStar Community,

The CFAS community has always come together to support CFAS Members and Athletes. I want to commend everyone in the box for coming together to bring more functional awareness to COVID-19. This situation represents a unique challenge. It's not something to freak out about, but we're not going to bury our head in the sand either. CFAS will be proactive & direct and we will always put the safety and wellbeing of our Members & Staff first.

We care about each and every one of you. During this time, we’d ask that CFAS Members, Staff, and Athletes always err on the side of safety. Out of an abundance of caution, I ask that Members follow our recommended and RECENTLY UPDATED GUIDELINES (seen below) in the gym. We’d also recommend using the precautions outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO), including consistent hand-washing. For your convenience, we’ve included a simple summary of some WHO recommendations here.

MAHALO to our members who have given us great recommendations as well. Mahalo to the other organizations I am a part of (my Business Networking International community and the HPA School community) whom have given me great ideas to implement alongside at the box. If you have ideas on ways we can be of service to you during this time, please text KC ideas and share them. No idea is too big or too small to share. We will not rest until we’ve done our utmost to support Members, Athletes, and Staff.

IMPORTANT HEALTH UPDATE please read all.

NEW CROSSFIT ALLSTAR COVID-19 GYM GUIDELINES:

  • WASH your hands BEFORE and AFTER your workout.
  • Coaches will remind and enforce people to disinfect all the equipment that’s used (including stuff for warm-ups, like plates, pvc, racks, bars, star wall etc) We usually only do this after the WOD, despite how much we touch everything all the time. We can ramp it up! The virus is passed thru contact, including contact with surfaces touched by an infected person.
  • Staff shall rotate clean rags for wiping down equipment EACH DAY. Morning 5am coaches will rotate rags each day (Thursday 8:15 coach).
  • We will eliminate &/or limit partner activities and games that might pass germs through direct contact (med-ball toss, farmers/loggers, dodge ball, high-fives in workouts, partner stretching, etc) until COVID-19 calms down (expected to take 2 months). I’m sorry this will affect the programming and culture in the gym but I think everyone appreciates these efforts to help keep germs at bay for at least until the COVID-19 is under control (expect 2 months or more of elevated safety)
  • Stay HOME when you're SICK! DUUHHH!
  • You CAN still be contagious with this virus WITHOUT showing any symptoms, so it is out of extreme caution that I extend a recommendation coming directly from Hawaii Preparatory Academy for their students that I found helpful which states the following: Avoid all non-essential travel to geographic areas with widespread or sustained community transmission of COVID-19, as outlined by the CDC (including China, Japan, Italy, Iran and others). Any travel at this time carries risk since the location of outbreaks around the world remains fluid. You may not be allowed to leave the country or region of a new outbreak, or you may not be allowed to travel back into the United States once you are in a region that has experienced an outbreak. Families need to stay informed and make travel decisions and arrangements that minimize their risk. PLEASE AVOID COMING TO THE GYM FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS IF YOU TRAVEL TO ANY LEVEL 2 OR 3 AREA TO AVOID INFECTING OTHERS. This will be on your honor system only. YOU MAY HOLD YOUR MEMBERSHIP DURING THIS 2 WEEK SELF QUARANTINE PERIOD JUST NOTIFY KC OR STAFF.

World Health Organization Recommendations (WHO):

  • Wash your hands frequently Wash your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water kills the virus if it is on your hands.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene- When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Why? Covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing prevent the spread of germs and viruses. If you sneeze or cough into your hands, you may contaminate objects or people that you touch.
  • Maintain social distancing Maintain at least 1-meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever. Why? When someone who is infected with a respiratory disease, like 2019-nCoV, coughs or sneezes they project small droplets containing the virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the virus.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth Why? Hands touch many surfaces which can be contaminated with the virus. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself.

MAHALO for taking this matter seriously. While we do not wish to create panic, we want to provide you with the most current scientific facts and recommendations from the CDC and WHO. It is during these times when the quality or our community at CFAS shines as we support and care for each other by taking personal responsibility to ensure safety of the group. We mahalo each one of you!

With gratitude,

KC Stallsmith & CFAS Staff
